A total of 42 suspects were arrested in an intelligence-led police operation conducted by Kira Road Police in the early hours of March 18, 2025. According to Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the operation, which ran from 12:00 AM to 4:40 AM, targeted known criminal hideouts in Kyebando, Mulimira, Kamwokya, and parts of Bukoto.
The crackdown focused on individuals using drainage channels as hideouts and those loitering around late-night betting centers under the guise of gambling while allegedly plotting to cause chaos in the neighborhood.
Criminal hotspots targeted
Police identified black spots notorious for harboring criminals and conducted thorough sweeps, leading to multiple arrests. Several exhibits were also recovered during the operation.
“With the assistance of local leaders and concerned parties, a screening process will be conducted, and those found culpable will face court proceedings,” Onyango stated.
Authorities vow continued operations
The police have declared the operation successful, vowing to sustain similar efforts to restore order and improve security in these areas.
The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over rising petty crime, burglaries, and disorderly behavior in Kampala suburbs, with authorities emphasizing the need for community cooperation in tackling criminal activities.
