St. Lawrence Citizens High School Creamland Campus, one of the renowned branches under the St. Lawrence group of schools, has reportedly closed its doors due to severe financial challenges, sources close to the institution have revealed. Founded in 1993 by the late educationist and entrepreneur Prof. Lawrence Mukiibi, the St. Lawrence brand quickly grew into a household name in Uganda’s education sector, boasting six prestigious high school campuses and later St. Lawrence University. Prof. Mukiibi was celebrated for his visionary leadership and passion for quality education.

However, following his sudden death in 2017, reportedly after slipping in his bathroom, the empire appears to have struggled to maintain the same momentum. While high-level State House officials had earlier pledged to support and sustain the group of schools after his passing, the closure of Creamland Campus signals a possible turning point in the institution’s once-stable trajectory. Sources suggest that internal financial mismanagement and leadership disputes may be at the heart of the school's troubles. Some insiders also attribute the downfall to a lack of proper succession planning, a common issue that has affected many family-owned business empires in Uganda after the death of their founders.

Observers have likened the situation to the collapse of other Ugandan business giants such as Zimwe Construction Company, BMK Group, Tycoon Aponye’s enterprises, and Quality Chemicals, whose fortunes reportedly dwindled after the demise of their founders. Analysts argue that the failure by many tycoons to institutionalize leadership and detach their businesses from political patronage has left such empires vulnerable.

Sources further allege that after Prof. Mukiibi’s death, family members who attempted to lay claim to his property encountered legal and administrative hurdles, which reportedly discouraged them from pursuing further involvement in the school's management.

As of this report, officials from the St. Lawrence Group have yet to issue an official statement regarding the status of Creamland Campus. Parents, students, and alumni remain anxious about the future of the once-prestigious institution.
