The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Justice Aisha Batala Naluzze, has disclosed that over 61,570 public officers failed to declare their income, assets, and liabilities during the recent wealth declaration exercise conducted in April.
Out of 302,800 public officials required to declare, only 241,230 complied with the law, representing a compliance rate of approximately 80%.

Speaking to the media, Justice Naluzze warned that all those who failed to declare their wealth risk being dragged before the Leadership Code Tribunal, where they could face stiff penalties including demotion, heavy fines, and imprisonment.

In a related development, the IGG confirmed that her office has received a formal petition from a group of lawyers and activists demanding a comprehensive investigation into Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among over alleged breaches of the Leadership Code Act.
“We have received the petition and investigations have already commenced. We shall make our findings public once the investigations are concluded,” Justice Naluzze stated.

She further urged members of the public to continue reporting suspected cases of unexplained opulence and misconduct involving public officials and government leaders.

The latest revelations by the IGG come amid growing public scrutiny over accountability and integrity among public servants and top political leaders. Wealth declaration is a mandatory annual requirement under the Leadership Code Act aimed at fighting corruption and preventing abuse of office.

The Inspectorate is expected to begin summoning non-compliant officers in the coming weeks.
