Mirembe Monica (6) and Mugisha Aloysius (5) perished in fire

Lwengo – A tragic fire outbreak in Lwengo District on March 27, 2025, claimed the lives of two young children and left another injured. The deceased have been identified as Mirembe Monica (6) and Mugisha Aloysius (5), while Hakuzimana Antonio (9) survived the ordeal with injuries.

According to reports, the children’s mother had left home at around 8:00 PM to deliver food to her husband, who was working in a nearby village. Upon her return, she found the house ablaze, with neighbors struggling to put out the fire. Preliminary investigations indicate that after the mother left, Hakuzimana Antonio lit a candle before the children went to sleep. Unfortunately, the candle ignited a mosquito net and mattress, causing the fire to spread rapidly through the house.
Hakuzimana managed to escape and alert neighbors, but despite their swift response, they were unable to rescue Mirembe and Mugisha, as the fire had already consumed the house.

Authorities have urged parents to take extra precautions when leaving young children unattended, especially in homes using open flames for lighting. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
