Israeli forces attack school in Gaza, kill nine

At least nine Palestinians have been reported killed in the cities of Jenin and Tulkarem

In a tragic escalation of violence, Israeli forces have attacked a school in eastern Deir el-Balah, Gaza, that was sheltering displaced Palestinians, resulting in the deaths of eight people. This incident comes amid a broader and intense military operation by Israel in the occupied West Bank, marking one of the largest raids in nearly two decades.

At least nine Palestinians have been reported killed in the cities of Jenin and Tulkarem as the Israeli military, supported by hundreds of soldiers and airstrikes, continues its operations. The raid is part of a sustained effort by Israel to target what it describes as militant strongholds in these areas.

Israel’s foreign minister has controversially called for the displacement of Palestinians from parts of the northern occupied West Bank, drawing parallels between the situation there and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. This statement has further inflamed tensions and drawn sharp criticism from international observers.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly. A United Nations official described the timing of the attacks as disastrous, noting that UN staff have been forced to abandon their headquarters in Gaza and halt critical operations, including a polio vaccination campaign. This cessation of aid activities exacerbates the already dire conditions for civilians in the region.

The conflict has taken a severe toll on both sides. Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza, at least 40,534 people have been killed and 93,778 wounded in the territory. The violence was sparked by Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,139 Israelis.

As the conflict shows no signs of abating, the international community continues to call for an immediate ceasefire and a return to peace negotiations, though these calls have yet to yield any tangible results. The ongoing violence has deepened the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank, leaving countless families in mourning and communities devastated.
