BUSIA

Three police officers attached to the Busia border have been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of abuse of office, aiding a prisoner to escape, and conspiracy to defeat justice.

The officers—Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Kali Godfrey, No. 48527 Corporal Owiny Peter, and No. 47882 Corporal Odul Oscar—were jointly charged following investigations conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), working with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Suspects

Prosecution states that between December 22 and 23, 2025, while deployed at the Busia Customs Office under Interpol and the terrorism tactical unit, the officers abused their authority by arbitrarily aiding the escape of Kasule Najib. Najib had been intercepted at the Uganda–Kenya border and was being held as a suspect.

Kasule Najib is a key suspect in an international gold scam under investigation by the SH-ACU, in which an American national was allegedly defrauded of more than USD 840,000.
The accused officers were remanded until January 21, 2025, as investigations and court proceedings continue.
