Bushenyi - The Western Ankole Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) has launched the Real Father project—a five-day training workshop targeting fathers aged 25 and under—in an effort to combat gender-based violence (GBV) and promote family harmony.
Speaking at the official launch held at Tuzza Hotel today, Annet Mugisha, Woman Member of Parliament for Bushenyi District, expressed concern that government programs often focus more on the girl child, leaving the boy child behind. She emphasized, “Raising responsible citizens is a parental duty, yet too often men abdicate their roles, leaving the burden on women.”
Atuzarirwe Allen, the Community Development Officer for Mitooma District, praised the initiative, saying, “This training will equip CDOs and other leaders with practical tools to guide young fathers in building harmonious families.” She added that Mitooma is among the districts most affected by gender-based violence.
According to Apollo Kakonge, Executive Director of WACSOF, “The workshop aims to equip Community Development Officers with the knowledge and skills needed to address violence affecting children and young families.”

The training brings together Community Development Officers, opinion leaders, gender officers, and other stakeholders from the districts of Buhweju, Rwampara, Mitooma, Bushenyi, and Sheema. These participants will later cascade their knowledge to sub-county leaders.
