The incident occurred on January 8, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m. at Omukitengye Trading Centre in Mwendo Parish, Kitumba Sub-county, Kabale District.

Police say supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, Eliab Naturinda Mporera, were allegedly attacked as they headed to Omukitengye Trading Centre for campaign activities.
The group was reportedly travelling on motorcycles, in motor vehicles, and on foot when they encountered an alleged roadblock mounted by supporters of an independent candidate, Hon. Minister David Bahati.

According to preliminary police findings, the roadblock was allegedly set up using stones, sticks, and pangas, and fires were reportedly lit along the road using portrait photos of Mporera.

Several people sustained injuries during the fracas. The injured include Owesigyire Innocent, 36, a driver and resident of Kiyora Cell, Mwendo Parish; Ntegamahe Robert, 35, a peasant from the same area; and Ndyamuhaki Clinton, 19, a student from Bufuka Village, Bwama Parish, Kitumba Sub-county.
Others injured are Friday Keneth, Natukunda Moses, and another yet-to-be-identified adult male who is reportedly unable to speak. All the injured are receiving treatment at Rugarama Hospital.

Police also noted that during the scuffle, some supporters of Hon. David Bahati were allegedly assaulted. These include Kasigazi Nyansio and Gumisiriza Hassan.

He added that a team from the Kabale political desk and district scene of crime officers (SOCO) visited the scene and documented evidence.
