MBARARA

Muntuyera High School Kitunga emerged this year's SECONDARY SCHOOLS boys football champions after beating rivals Kagamba SS 2-0 in a historical final played at Makenke barracks grounds in Mbarara on Thursday.
The decision to shift the final from Kyamate grounds Ntungamo to Mbarara and inside the army barracks was a following a directive from the physical education and sports department of the ministry of education and sports.
The commissioner directed that the final of the boys be played in a more secure ground and in Mbarara following the bad history between the two schools.

And as the game was heading to penalties for there seemed no hope to break the deadlock, there came a succession of dead end strikes as Kagamba conceded a penalty that was well converted by team captain Ariho Evans before Tumwebaze Joshua sealed the win with a sole run before slotting in
The victory was not only from a historical away from home finale, but also was cementing the Muntuyera boys as the only unchallenged school team in the history of Ntungamo district secondary schools football.

The Kajara based institution was winning their 31st district title, the title they have won since Ntungamo was named district in 1993, with only last year and the covid year being their undoing due to suspension and the pandemic challenges respectively.
"We have won this title every year we have participated and we thank everyone, the players, the technical team, the fans, the old boys and our school board for the support. We have excelled in both academics and co curricular activities and this is what Kitunga is about," Said a joyous head teacher Yoram Muzahura.

Basing on the circumstances that led to the shifting of the game final to another play ground away from Ntungamo, Captain Richard Okullo, the head teacher of the hosting Mbarara Army Boarding school requested Ntungamo schools to ensure more teaching of patriotism which he said would erase these fights.

The representative of head teachers' association in Ntungamo Africano Ashabahebwa emphasised the need for refraining from acts of hooliganism in sports, for it has caused the travelling of this distance away from home.
Muntuyera and Kagamba SS will now be joined by four other boys teams to represent Ntungamo district at this year's USSSA Ankole zone boys football championship due at St George's PTC Ibanda, in Ibanda from April 14-19.
