Rubirizi – Police in Rubirizi District are investigating the mysterious disappearance of Nicholas Kwetegyereza, the LC1 Chairperson of Mubanda D Village in Ryeru Sub-county.
Kwetegyereza, 49, was last seen on May 31, 2025, while returning from Kampala, where he had traveled with a Fuso truck carrying a consignment of avocados. According to his family, he had recently ventured into the avocado trade and had secured a market in Kampala through his son.
"He was in high spirits when he left. We were expecting him back the next day, but his phone went off, and we haven't heard from him since," said a family member who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.
Preliminary police findings indicate there had been ongoing domestic disagreements involving Kwetegyereza, his wife, and their son, which are now part of the investigation.
As part of their inquiries, police have arrested the son, identified as Nkahebwa, and Kwetegyereza's wife to assist with the ongoing investigation.
SP Apollo Tayebwa, the Acting Police Spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Region, confirmed the arrests.
"We are treating this case as a suspected kidnapping. Our officers are actively investigating and following up on all possible leads," Tayebwa told our reporter.
"We urge anyone with information about the whereabouts of Mr. Kwetegyereza to come forward and assist us. This is a matter of public concern, and community cooperation is crucial."
Local leaders have expressed deep concern over the incident.
"It's alarming that a community leader can just disappear without a trace. We are working closely with police and hope he is found safe," said Robert Atuheire, a councillor in Ryeru Sub-county.
