ISINGIRO -

Police in Isingiro District have made a major breakthrough in the murder investigation of Karuhanga Gordon, a 48-year-old resident of Rugaara Cell, Kagarama Parish, Kagarama Sub-county.
According to Police, the breakthrough followed a swift response after the incident was reported. A team comprising homicide detectives, Scenes of Crime Officers and a K-9 unit was immediately deployed to the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a detailed examination of the scene was carried out by the dog handler, after which a sniffer dog was introduced to track the suspect. The dog picked the strongest scent believed to belong to the perpetrator and followed it for approximately 100 metres from the scene. The trail led to a man identified as Gerald, who was among community members present at the time.

Police said the suspect was positively identified by the complainant as a co-worker of the deceased. Investigations established that the suspect and the deceased were both employed by the same individual to work on a plantation and had been living together in the same house.

Upon arrest, Gerald was found with bloodstains on his hands, suspected to be of human origin. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to having fought with the deceased during the night after the two returned from a drinking joint. Police further revealed that four other individuals who were in the house at the time are also being investigated in connection with the incident.

The suspected murder weapons—a pit axe and a stick—both bearing bloodstains, were recovered from the scene and have been secured as exhibits.

Police say investigations are ongoing as inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder, while the suspect remains in custody to aid further investigations.
