On Thursday, King Mswati III of Eswatini continued his official visit to Uganda by exploring the countryside, where he appreciated the rich culture of Busoga and observed key development initiatives in the greater Jinja sub-region. Accompanied by his wife, Queen Inkhosikati Make Lamashwama, and a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini, King Mswati III was warmly received by the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, and Queen Jovia Mutesi Nadiope.
The King’s day began with a courtesy visit to Kiira Motors Corporation, where CEO Paul Isaac Musasizi guided him through East Africa’s first state-of-the-art electric vehicle manufacturing plant. King Mswati III expressed his admiration for the project, noting its significance as an African-led initiative using cutting-edge technology.
"We can work together," the King stated, "because when you manufacture buses like this, we see that you’ll not only supply the market here in Uganda but also across Africa. We propose the Kingdom of Eswatini as a distribution hub for these buses in the region."
King Mswati visits Kiira Vehicle Plant
His visit to the Kiira Vehicle Plant, located at the Jinja Industrial and Business Park, comes as Kiira Motors Corporation recently delivered eight new 8-meter Kayoola electric buses, bringing the total number of electric buses produced in Uganda to fifteen. King Mswati III and his delegation were given a test drive in the 2024 Kayoola EVS, a fully electric city bus with a range of 200 kilometers on a full charge and a capacity of over 56 passengers.
King Mswati III also endorsed a proposal for a partnership between Uganda and Eswatini to import cars from Uganda
The vehicle plant, which began construction in 2019, is now 95% complete. King Mswati III also endorsed a proposal for a partnership between Uganda and Eswatini to localize the manufacture of vehicle components, aiming to position Africa as a global automotive hub. As a gesture of commitment to environmental sustainability, the King planted a tree at the plant.
King Mswati III arrived in Uganda on Wednesday for a three-day State Visit at the invitation of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, marking a significant milestone in diplomatic relations between Uganda and Eswatini.
