Mufumba was arraigned before the court on charges of abuse of office and causing financial loss

KAMPALA, Uganda

The Anti-Corruption Court has remanded the former Kamuli District Engineer, Daniel Mufumba, over allegations of embezzling more than UGX600 million earmarked for road rehabilitation and maintenance in Kamuli District.
Mufumba was arraigned before the court on charges of abuse of office and causing financial loss following a joint investigation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

According to investigators, Mufumba had been on the run before he was apprehended and brought before court. He now joins his co-accused, Mukiibi Nasser, the former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and Alex Kifuuse, the former Chief Finance Officer (CFO), who were earlier charged in connection with the same case.

Prosecutors allege that between May and June 2025, the three officials abused their offices by irregularly processing and approving payments totaling more than UGX600 million to various suppliers, including Raven Knights Ltd and Total Uganda Limited.
The funds were reportedly intended for the rehabilitation of the Nawanyago–Kisozi Road, covering expenses such as fuel, construction materials, diversion and traffic control signs, allowances, and other road works.

Investigators further allege that Mufumba fraudulently paid himself part of the money by listing himself as one of the suppliers involved in the project.

The accused was remanded until July 10, 2026, as investigations and prosecution of the case continue.

The case forms part of ongoing efforts by anti-corruption agencies to strengthen accountability in the management of public funds, particularly those allocated to infrastructure development.
