The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, was involved in a road accident on Wednesday morning at Kibukuta swamp in Mpigi District while travelling to Rwampara for an official ceremony to hand over land titles.
According to preliminary reports, the minister was in a convoy with her team when the incident occurred at the swamp, located near Jalia City along the Kampala-Masaka highway.

Details of the cause of the crash and the extent of damage to the vehicle are still emerging, but sources close to the minister indicate that she and her entourage survived the accident. No serious injuries have been confirmed at this stage.
The minister was heading to Rwampara District in western Uganda to preside over a land title handover ceremony as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to issue land titles to citizens and resolve land disputes.

Kibukuta swamp has in the past been a notorious black spot for road accidents, particularly during the rainy season when the road surface becomes slippery and visibility is often reduced.

Police and traffic officers are said to have rushed to the scene to manage the situation and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
As of now, the minister’s office has not issued an official statement, but social media and local news outlets have been awash with reports confirming the incident.

Further updates are expected as more details emerge regarding the condition of the minister and her team, as well as the exact cause of the accident.
This incident comes at a time when the government continues to push forward with its land titling programme across the country to secure property rights for Ugandans.
