Lwengo - The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) medical teams have successfully performed over 100 surgeries in Lyantonde and Lwengo districts as part of the activities marking the 44th Tarehe Sita celebrations.
Lt. Col. Dr. Godfrey Ngobya, the team leader, stated that surgical cases handled included hernias, hydroceles, goiters, and enlarged prostates.

In addition to surgeries, the UPDF medical teams attended to over 1,500 patients at mobile clinics. Common ailments treated during the outreach included malaria, respiratory tract infections, and urinary tract infections (UTIs). Hon. Dr. Kagabo Twaha, Member of Parliament for Bukoto South, commended the UPDF for their commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the region.
“Their medical outreach complements existing healthcare services by addressing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and skin diseases, while also providing surgical interventions,” Dr. Kagabo stated.

He further dismissed false claims that sought to discourage the public from attending the medical camps.
“There were rumors that the UPDF was vaccinating and intoxicating people, which is completely baseless. The UPDF’s mandate is to protect and serve the nation, and in this case, they are saving lives through medical services,” he emphasized. The free medical services program has provided much-needed relief to the community, ensuring access to essential healthcare for those in need.
