Tororo, Uganda – The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in coordination with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has arraigned Naluyima Josephine, a Marketing Officer at Centenary Bank, Tororo branch, before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Tororo on charges of Theft and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.
Naluyima appeared in court on Friday and was formally charged in connection with the fraudulent diversion of funds meant for elderly beneficiaries under the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) program. She has been remanded until April 16, 2025, as investigations continue.

According to prosecution, Naluyima is accused of working alongside Asangai David, the Tororo District Community Development Officer (CDO), and other individuals still at large, to embezzle millions of shillings meant for elderly beneficiaries in Tororo and Busia districts.
The alleged offences took place between September and October 2023, during which the suspects reportedly conspired to siphon the funds distributed through different sub-counties under the SAGE program, a government initiative aimed at improving the livelihoods of older persons.

Asangai David had earlier been charged with similar offences and remains a key suspect in the case. The charges against the accused fall under serious economic crimes that continue to undermine government efforts to support vulnerable populations.

The Anti-Corruption Unit has reiterated its commitment to bringing to book individuals who engage in the misuse of public funds and has encouraged whistleblowers to continue reporting such cases for action.
The case has been adjourned to April 16, 2025, when Naluyima will reappear in court for further proceedings.
