The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has dismissed unsubstantiated and misleading reports circulating on social media, alleging that the Ugandan Air Force dropped chemical and barrel weapons on rebel White Army positions in the Upper Nile and Jonglei states of northern South Sudan. The UPDF strongly refutes these claims, stating that it neither possesses chemical weapons or barrel bombs nor operates systems designed to deliver them.
Additionally, the UPDF does not target civilians or civilian objects, emphasizing that great care is taken to avoid any collateral damage. The force relies on precision strike capabilities to isolate and destroy military targets only. The UPDF further noted that the allegations are part of an AI-generated propaganda scheme driven by Dr. Riek Machar and his allies to discredit Uganda’s presence in South Sudan. The public is urged to disregard such misinformation.
The UPDF reaffirmed that its operations in South Sudan are fully authorized and supported by the South Sudanese government.
