There was a presentation of promising progress by Uganda schools that will host this year’s edition of the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Associations (FEASSA) games due August 16-27.

This was during a two-day first inspection of the hosting facilities at the two schools Bukedea Comprehensive School and co-hosts Amus College School, by the FEASSA executive led by president Justus Mugisha on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The team that also comprised of association executive members and government officials from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and hosts Uganda, toured the facilities of accommodation and sports at the two schools.

Promising high class facilities

At main hosts Bukedea, the team was impressed by the accommodation facilities where four new buildings have been put in place that will accommodate the girls including the accommodation facility at the new Bukedea teaching hospital that will accommodate the primary kids and special needs kids.

They recommended the construction work going on at the main stadium, the indoor arena and the swimming pool, that have reached a 70% level but said must be completed by mid-next month.

“We are impressed by the sanitation and accommodation facilities at the main hosting institution and the construction work on the sports facilities which are rare in many schools in our region. However, they have to make sure they complete and make them ready by mid July when we come back for the second inspection,” FEASSA Justus Mugisha said.

By the time Bukedea won the bid to hos the games in July last year, they did not have these projects in place and only started the construction on the three major projects in November last year.

At Amus College, it was the same impressive accommodation and sanitation that was recommended alongside the completed 3 all-weather basketball courts.

There are 4 grass football pitches that have been put in place and are almost getting ready for they have grown grass while the fifth that will be the main stadium will be laid an artificial turf where the ground has been leveled and the turf already at the school and will be laid starting next week.

But FEASSA general secretary David Ngugi insisted the works on the turf grounds should speed up so to have time for test matches before the games.

Commissioner physical education and sports Rev Can Duncans Mugumya hailed the two schools for establishing sports facilities to international standards.

“I am impressed that these schools have taken on sports projects of international standards. Government is impressed that her call on private investment in sports is taking off and that school directors are into it,” Mugumya said.

Uganda who are the defending champions of the games host the rest of the schools from the member countries and I will be the first time Teso region will be hosting the games.
