Police in Rubirizi District are investigating a disturbing case in which a 14-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by her 37-year-old biological father. The suspect has been identified as Nyesiga Julius, a resident of Nyakihanda Village, Butoha Parish, Magambo Sub-county, Rubirizi District, where the incident reportedly occurred.
According to SP Apollo Tayebwa, the Acting Regional Police Spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi, the case was reported on June 4, 2025, at Rubirizi Central Police Station.
“We responded immediately by arresting the suspect. Both the victim and the suspect have been taken for medical examinations to establish their health status and aid our investigations,” he said.
SP Tayebwa strongly condemned the act, stating: “It is deeply disturbing when a parent, who should be the first line of protection, becomes the perpetrator of such a heinous crime. We strongly condemn such inhumane and unlawful acts.” Authorities say justice in many similar cases is often frustrated by parents or guardians who choose to negotiate with suspects instead of reporting them to the police.
Ms. Faith Amanya Betega, the Bushenyi District Probation and Welfare Officer, noted that this practice is both common and harmful.
“Many of these cases go unreported because some parents opt for local negotiations with the suspects instead of reporting them to authorities. In some instances, families accept money or other forms of compensation, effectively killing the case and denying justice to the victims,” she said.
She added that drug abuse, broken families, and moral decline are major contributors to the increasing prevalence of such incidents.
Authorities in Greater Bushenyi are now urging the public to remain vigilant and report all suspected cases of child abuse to the nearest police station or community leaders.
“It is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the children in our communities. We will not tolerate any form of abuse,” SP Tayebwa emphasized.
