Mbarara City – Police in Mbarara City South Division are holding two security guards in connection with the attempted murder of a 32-year-old businessman who was shot and seriously injured on Easter Monday. According to a statement issued by the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira, the suspects, identified as Nabimanya Marvin, a 17-year-old juvenile, and Amutuhaire Samuel, 22, both security guards attached to LEGIT Security Company Ltd in Ibanda, were arrested on April 22, 2025.

The shooting occurred on the night of April 20, 2025, at around 10:30 PM, at Karugangama Cell, Katete Ward, in Mbarara City South Division. The victim, Brian Barigye, was reportedly at his place of business with several others when the two suspects arrived. One of them, Nabimanya Marvin, was armed with a rifle, which alarmed the group. “When the victim and his colleagues questioned the suspects about their presence in the area, the two became hostile. Nabimanya allegedly discharged a bullet, which struck and seriously injured Barigye,” Kasasira stated.

Barigye was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he remains in critical condition receiving medical attention. Following the incident, police recovered the firearm—Gun No. UG.PSO 564211869-16588, loaded with three live rounds—from a third individual, identified only as Derrick. The weapon has since been secured as evidence.

Police confirmed that the case file has been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for further guidance and possible prosecution.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
