Bushenyi – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) offices in Bushenyi District have been inundated with Local Council (LC) aspirants expressing interest in contesting in the forthcoming NRM primary elections. Gilbert Rukoko, the Bushenyi District NRM Registrar, noted that the turnout was unexpected, given the short timeframe of seven days allocated for the exercise. "We didn't expect such a large number of aspirants given the short notice. The staff allocated to run the exercise are insufficient to handle the high volume of participants," Rukoko said.

Benon Ahimbisibwe, a resident of Kafunjo Village, Ruhumuro Subcounty, expressed his interest in contesting for the LC chairperson position in both the NRM primaries and the general elections.
"I'm here to show my interest in leading my community as an LC chairperson. I believe I can make a difference and serve my people better," Ahimbisibwe said.
The aspirants who turned up urged the government not to extend the LC general elections, citing poor service delivery under the current leadership. "We don't want any extensions because the current leadership has been overtaken by events, leading to poor service delivery. We're optimistic that people will choose leaders of their choice this time around," said one of the aspirants.
Rukoko acknowledged the challenges posed by the high turnout but assured the aspirants that the NRM would ensure a smooth process. "We will do our best to accommodate everyone and ensure a fair process," Rukoko said.
