Bushenyi District Police are investigating circumstances surrounding an alleged case of malicious damage and arson involving a Toyota Sprinter, registration number UAB 782B, owned by Mr Ntwirenabo Silver, the chairman of the Mbarara–Ishaka Taxi Stage. The incident occurred on Thursday, January 2, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m., opposite Gaz Fuel Station in Bushenyi District.

According to police, preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle was deliberately set on fire following a clash between taxi operators and the chairman over the management of taxi operations at the stage.

The Greater Bushenyi sub-region police spokesperson, Apollo Tayebwa, said the situation was swiftly brought under control by emergency responders.
“Police, together with fire responders, responded promptly and managed to extinguish the fire, which had already engulfed part of the vehicle, thereby preventing its total destruction,” Tayebwa said.

He added that no casualties were recorded during the incident.
“No injuries or loss of life were registered, as timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading further,” Tayebwa noted.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances under which the vehicle was set ablaze. “Investigations are ongoing, and any arrests will be guided by the findings of these inquiries,” Tayebwa said.

He cautioned members of the public against resorting to violence during disputes.
“We strongly urge members of the public to always seek the intervention of police and other relevant authorities in the event of misunderstandings, rather than taking the law into their own hands,” he warned.

Police have pledged to keep the public informed as investigations progress.
“We shall continue updating the public on any developments as soon as investigations are concluded,” Tayebwa said.
