Bushenyi District — Stakeholders in Bushenyi District have undergone a critical orientation on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) aimed at improving ambulance coordination and strengthening rapid response to medical emergencies across the region.
The engagement focused on creating a more efficient system for residents to access life-saving interventions, particularly during the “golden hour” following road accidents and other acute medical emergencies.

Dr. Marion Nakyeyune, a representative of the Ministry of Health Uganda, said government has set a target of increasing the efficiency and availability of emergency medical services by 50 percent.
The strategy is intended to reduce deaths among newborns, children, and adults who often die because of delays in reaching specialized health facilities.
“The ministry’s goal is to ensure that no life is lost simply because a patient could not reach a hospital in time. By strengthening emergency protocols and increasing the visibility of ambulance services, we can significantly reduce preventable deaths,” Dr. Nakyeyune said.

Need for More Ambulances
Local leaders welcomed the initiative but raised concerns over inadequate resources.
District officials noted that the current number of ambulances is too small to effectively serve the district’s wide and hard-to-reach rural communities.
They called on the Ministry of Health to prioritize the deployment of more fully equipped ambulances and trained emergency personnel if the planned 50 percent improvement in services is to be achieved.
District Prepares for Women’s Day Celebrations
In a separate development, Bushenyi District is finalizing preparations for its belated International Women's Day celebrations.
A joint organizing committee meeting chaired by the Resident District Commissioner is underway at Tuuza Hotel to finalize logistics for the event.
The celebrations are scheduled for Friday, April 24, and are expected to attract thousands of residents and women’s groups from across the district.
Organizers say the event will provide a platform to recognize the contribution of women to local development while addressing ongoing challenges related to gender equality and household economic empowerment.
