Sheema
Sheema District stepped up preparations on Monday morning ahead of President Yoweri Museveni's campaign visit tomorrow, with leaders and residents conducting a major cleaning exercise and decorating Kabwohe Town in NRM colours. District leaders, health officials and hundreds of residents turned up early on Monday, December 1, for a massive clean-up in Kabwohe Town, where the President is expected to hold his main rally.
By Monday afternoon, Kabwohe had been painted yellow, with Museveni's campaign posters and those of district NRM flag bearers pinned across shop fronts, buildings and street poles. Vendors cashed in on the excitement, selling campaign T-shirts branded “Protecting the Gains” and “The Unstoppable Uganda.”
Sheema Municipality MP, Dicksons Kateshumbwa, who is also the NRM chairperson for the municipality, rallied street vendors, ghetto market vendors and all residents to turn up in large numbers to welcome the President
Museveni, the NRM presidential candidate, will campaign in Sheema and Bushenyi on Tuesday before heading to Mitooma and Rubirizi on Wednesday, November 3, as part of his nationwide campaign trail.
Sheema District Woman MP flag bearer, Adrine Katusiime Mwebesa, who led the clean-up drive, urged residents to turn up in large numbers to receive the President.
“Sheema has benefited greatly from President Museveni’s leadership—safe and clean water, electricity and programmes that empower women and the youth,” she said. “Let us show our appreciation by welcoming him in big numbers.”
Residents who participated in the exercise, including Imam Kushaba and Michael Muhumuza, expressed gratitude for ongoing government support but appealed for urgent improvement of road infrastructure.
“We are happy with the progress, but roads must now be prioritised,” Muhumuza said.
Kushaba added: “The Kabwohe–Masheruka–Bwizibwera–Nsiika road and the Kabwohe–Kitagata–Kabira–Rukungiri road should be tarmacked so that farmers can reach markets easily.”
Sheema Municipality MP, Dicksons Kateshumbwa, who is also the NRM chairperson for the municipality, rallied street vendors, ghetto market vendors and all residents to turn up in large numbers to welcome the President. He commended the President for key investments delivered during the current term.
“We appreciate the upgrading of Kabwohe Health Centre IV, the construction of Migina Health Centre III, the establishment of the municipal headquarters and the Shs2 billion provided for road maintenance,” he said.
