Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has reaffirmed her support for the upcoming MK Birthday Run, announcing that Bukedea Comprehensive School has contributed UGX 100 million through the purchase of kits.
The Speaker said the contribution reflects a growing shift from celebratory events to initiatives that directly support vulnerable communities. The run, organised in honour of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is scheduled for April 26, 2026, under the theme “Run for Charity, Run for Hope.”
Among highlighted the role of Bukedea Comprehensive School in supporting disadvantaged learners, noting that the institution is currently sponsoring about 250 students from low-income families.
“Supporting vulnerable children is critical to building the country. These are future leaders who need an opportunity to succeed,” she said.

During the same event, Among expressed gratitude to Gen. Kainerugaba for endorsing her to retain the Speakership, alongside Thomas Tayebwa for the deputy speakership.
“We do not take this support for granted. We shall work to build trust, strengthen the Patriotic League, and ensure we do not disappoint,” she said.
The Speaker also dismissed ongoing speculation about her presidential ambitions, describing such claims as “rubbish” and “nonsensical.”
“I have no interest in that position. How can I be President when I don’t even know how to cock a gun?” she remarked.
Among further revealed that she plans to retire from elective politics in 2031, stating that she feels she has already “overachieved” in her political career. She pledged to support any candidate endorsed by Yoweri Museveni as his successor.
Reflecting on her political journey, Among credited President Museveni for her rise, noting that she would not have reached her current position without his support.
“I owe my journey to him, and I will continue to support both him and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba,” she said.
Reiterating her stance, Among said she lacks the desire, patience, and interest required to pursue the presidency, adding that she remains satisfied with her current role as Speaker of Parliament.
The MK Birthday Run has in recent years evolved into a major fundraising platform aimed at supporting vulnerable children across Uganda.
