Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ankole zone girls football champions Boni Consilii have made history of their own by qualifying for the coveted Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) for the first time.
The Isingiro based school team made it through after beating Standard High School Zzana 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the USSSA Ball games girls’ football in Bukedea on Sunday before losing 4-1 to St Noa Girls in the semifinals on Monday.
Goals by Abaho Rinah (2) and Biiba Nenghamba ensured the two-time Ankole zone champions will be playing at their maiden regional schools games due in Kakamega Kenya in August.

“We are surely happy that what we have been aiming at, has finally come to reality and we shall be playing at the regional games come August. I want to congratulate our girls for a good fight and thank the administration for encouraging us with every type of support. Our technical team has been this special and every one of our well-wishers. We still have a dream of winning the national title and it starts today,” Said team manager Primus Ngabirano.
They had eliminated Bugisu High School 4-1 in the round of 16 in a match watched by Crested Cranes head coach Sheryl Botes, who later had a word with the team after the match.
Boni Consilii becomes the second team from Ankole zone and specifically Isingiro district, to play in the semifinals of the championship and qualify for FEASSA games after Citizen High School Isingiro that reached the national finals before losing to Kawempe Moslem 3-2 in the 2015 edition at Ntare School.
Nyabubare SS makes history too.
Nyabubare SS, a USE school from Bushenyi, had come to this championship as number 4 of the 6 qualified to represent Ankole zone.
However, they played and finished the group stages top of their group before beating Jinja SS 2-1 to qualify for their first ever round of 16.
At this stage on Sunday, they met Ankole record winners Sheema Girls that had walloped them 5-0 in the semifinals of the Ankole zone in Bushenyi recently.
But the determined Nyabubare made history by eliminating the fancied opponents 4-3 on penalties after holding them to a 0-0 normal time draw, to qualify for their maiden quarter finals.
Nyabubare SS cerebrate a milstone in national girls football
They could not go beyond this as they were beaten 3-0 by home side AMUS College school, but they will live to cerebrate this milestone.
