The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, faced a series of confrontations with security personnel in the Tooro sub-region after allegedly breaching agreed campaign routes and venues.
According to Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Region Police Spokesperson, the candidate had earlier participated in preparatory meetings with regional coordinators, during which specific access routes and rally points were approved to ensure smooth campaign activities.
During the final briefing held on Monday, it was agreed that he would enter Tooro via the Kihura–Rwanwanja–Kahunge road and exit through Harubaho in Fort Portal, as the NRM presidential candidate was campaigning in Kyenjojo on the same day.

However, upon arrival at Kihura Trading Centre, the NUP candidate reportedly ignored the agreed route, triggering a standoff with security that lasted nearly an hour and a half.

Twesige says that when the candidate eventually reached Harubaho, he again attempted to deviate from the approved exit route by insisting on proceeding into Fort Portal town.
"This led to a second confrontation lasting about 30 minutes before he was redirected towards Bunyangabu District, where he later addressed supporters at Busiita Playground," Twesige said.

The candidate’s next scheduled rally was in Harugongo, Kabarole District. But upon reaching Ibonde, he allegedly diverted towards Fort Portal’s central business district, prompting another intervention by security at around 3:30 p.m. The impasse continued until 7:00 p.m., when he was escorted to his designated accommodation for the night.

Police maintained that it will not tolerate attempts by any presidential candidate to violate campaign guidelines or “portray themselves as victims” while deliberately operating in undesignated areas such as roads, trading centres, or unauthorized venues.
Authorities urged all candidates to adhere to agreed routes and plans to ensure safety and the orderly conduct of the campaign season.
