Upcoming motocross starlet Hellena Birungi continues to impress in the sport, maintaining her dominance in her riding category. Birungi, who recently won with flying colours at the FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship held at Smart Beach, Mityana, now sets her sights on defending her continental title in the upcoming competition scheduled for August.
"I am happy to have won this competition. I know the level of competition keeps growing every day, but my next target is to defend my continental title," said a jubilant Birungi.

In an event where Kenya could not send riders due to internal disputes within their federation, Hellena showcased her skills by overtaking and outpacing all competitors—including the third-fastest rider of the day. The reigning Africa Junior Ladies Champion, riding a 2025 KTM 50 SX Factory Edition in a highly contested 50cc senior category that attracted 14 riders, demonstrated her prowess and stood out from the rest.

The 9-year-old won all three heats, collecting the maximum 60 points to secure the top podium spot. She was followed by her closest rivals, Abigail Katende and Israel Mpuga, who finished in second and third place respectively.

This was Round One of the 20th edition of the Central Africa Motocross Challenge, which attracted a total of 78 riders from Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Kenyan riders missed the event due to internal wrangles in their national motocross body. The annual event rotates among East African countries, primarily Uganda and Kenya, where the sport of motocross continues to grow in popularity.
