The Uganda U-17 national men’s team has intensified its preparations ahead of this year’s Africa U-17 Championship, scheduled to take place in Morocco next month.
The team’s head coach, Laryea Kingston, has been putting the selected players through intensive drills at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru for the past three weeks.
Kingston, who guided the team to secure qualification for the continental showpiece in November last year, expressed confidence that the boys can once again qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

The tournament, which will run from April 25 to May 15 in Morocco, will bring together the continent’s best youth teams from the six regional zones to compete for continental glory and qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. Uganda secured qualification for the finals through the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) zonal qualifiers after reaching the final of the regional tournament held in Ethiopia in November last year, where they lost 3-2 to eventual champions Tanzania.
Last year, the Uganda Cubs made history by becoming the first Ugandan football team to qualify for a World Cup in Qatar, where they reached the Round of 16 before being knocked out by fellow Africans Burkina Faso.
