RUBIRIZI – Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo, the Member of Parliament-elect for Bunyaruguru Constituency, has called upon the residents of Rubirizi to maintain a spirit of gratitude and unity to unlock further prosperity and community development. Speaking during a thanksgiving mass to celebrate the 93rd birthday of his father, Mzee Valentino Buturo, held in Kyambogo, Magambo Sub-county, Hon. Buturo emphasized that giving thanks to God is a universal duty regardless of one’s economic status.
“Thanking God is not for the rich people only; even the poor can give thanks," Hon. Buturo remarked. He noted that the purpose of the gathering was to honor his father’s 93 years of faithful service, health, and family. He praised Mzee Valentino as a kind-hearted mentor and a loving father whose legacy has been built on faith and kindness.

Rev. Fr. Darius Magunda, a family member who led the mass, echoed these sentiments, noting that gratitude should persist through both good and bad times. He praised Mzee Buturo for his lifelong devotion to his religion and urged the younger generation to honor and care for their parents while they are still alive.
“Thanking God does not mean one is immune to sorrow or hardship,” Fr. Magunda said. “It is important to thank God through both good and bad times to gain more fruits.”

Mzee Valentino’s younger brother, Mr. Vincent Nkaburwa, also hailed the celebrant’s lifelong discipline, deep faith, and commitment to education, describing him as a role model for community development.

In his own remarks, Mzee Valentino Buturo expressed his joy at seeing his family and friends gathered to celebrate. He encouraged everyone to remain prayerful, questioning why many people who enjoy peace and good health often forget to acknowledge the source of those blessings.

A Call for Unity and Post-Election Reconciliation
In a related development, Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo addressed over 305 newly confirmed Christians at Rugazi Catholic Parish, where he urged the community to move past political divisions following the recent elections.

Addressing the congregation during the confirmation mass led by His Grace Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha, Hon. Buturo emphasized that love and respect are the foundations of development.
“Put aside political divisions and renew your commitment to unity,” he urged. “Parents must work together in their families, especially in supporting their children's education and standing by one another in all aspects of life.”

As a gesture of support, Hon. Buturo and his family contributed 5 million shillings toward the Archbishop’s visit to the parish.

Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha, leading the mass, challenged the faithful to trust in God and end unfair labor divisions within the community. He specifically called on the youth to respect their parents and on parents to raise their children with strong moral values.

The Parish Priest of Rugazi, Rev. Fr. Alphonse Mukundane, encouraged the 305 confirmed to be “good ambassadors” of the faith, urging them to maintain discipline and work hard as they transition into more active roles within the church and community.
