The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers who was captured on video assaulting a female petrol station attendant, an incident that sparked public outrage after circulating widely on social media. According to the Police Spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the incident occurred on October 7, 2025, at a Shell petrol station, where a male client, later identified as ASP Nsiima, was seen physically assaulting a female worker during a confrontation.
“Our preliminary investigations point to ASP Nsiima, a police officer, as the suspect. The officer has been apprehended and detained in police custody,” Rusoke said in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

He added that police have reached out to the victim and witnesses to record statements as part of ongoing investigations. “We condemn this behaviour as it contravenes our disciplinary code. The officer will be brought to account as soon as investigations are complete,” Rusoke noted. The video, which shows the officer slapping and shoving the female attendant, has triggered widespread criticism from members of the public and human rights advocates, who have called for swift disciplinary action.

Responding to the incident, AIGP Tom Magambo Rwabudongo, the Director of Criminal Investigations, described the act as “isolated and unacceptable,” assuring the public of a transparent internal investigation.
“My colleagues and I condemn such isolated behaviour. Be assured that an internal investigation is ongoing to guide further action,” AIGP Magambo stated, adding that the Police Spokesperson would provide regular updates. Meanwhile, Rusoke later confirmed that the suspect had indeed been arrested and placed under detention pending disciplinary and criminal proceedings.

The Uganda Police Force reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism and maintaining public trust, emphasizing that officers who violate the Force’s ethical code will face serious consequences.
