Pep Guardiola will take up a new high-profile role as Global Ambassador for the City Football Group after stepping down as Manchester City manager at the end of the current season.
The 55-year-old Spaniard confirmed his departure from the dugout following Manchester City’s final Premier League match of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday. However, he will not be cutting ties with the club entirely.
In a statement released by Manchester City, the club announced that Guardiola will continue his long-term relationship with the City Football Group by taking up the newly created ambassadorial position.
“Despite his departure as manager of Manchester City, Pep will continue his relationship with the City Football Group, by taking up a role as a global ambassador,” the statement read.
“The role will see him giving technical advice to the clubs in the group, working on specific projects and collaborations.”
City Football Group (CFG) owns or controls a global network of ten clubs, including Manchester City. The portfolio includes Girona (Spain), New York City FC (USA), Melbourne City (Australia), Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan), Palermo (Italy), Troyes (France), Lommel SK (Belgium), Bahia (Brazil), Montevideo City Torque (Uruguay), and Shenzhen Peng City (China). The group also has a strategic partnership with Club Bolívar in Bolivia.
Guardiola’s new role is expected to see him act as a technical mentor across the CFG network, leveraging his vast experience and football philosophy to support the development of players and coaches at the various clubs.
The announcement brings to a close one of the most successful managerial reigns in Premier League history, while ensuring that Guardiola’s influence remains within the City Football Group ecosystem.
