CECAFA representatives and Uganda side at the ongoing CAF schools football championship in Zanzibar Kawempe Moslem girls football team, has set foot on the cash box as the Ugandan schools record winners qualified for the semifinals.
The Ayub Khalifan coached side made the landmark after overcoming a double of group B outings on Wednesday, first beating Togo 2-0 and later seeing off the Gambia by the same margin to lead the group with 7 points.
The Ugandans had started with a slow 1-1 stalemate against South Africa, before picking form on the day that mattered in the girls category played in the 8-aside format.
Shadia Nabilye led Kawempe’s onslaught, scoring in both fixtures, first against Togo before Cynthia Kirenga’s other effort and in the second encounter against The Gambia, her strike was supplemented by Berinda Nabawanuka’s strike to see off the West Africans.
It was however not a good outing for CECAFA other representatives St Mary’s Kitende, who bowed out after collecting one point from two games, a 0-0 draw against Senegal and a 1-0 loss to Tanzania and cannot progress in the boys’ category played 11-aside format.
The qualification pits Kawempe Moslem against Morocco, who finished runners up to Tanzania in Group A and an eye for the title and cash bonanza.
