After weeks of denying that the upcoming Regional Parliamentary Sittings would lead to additional expenses, Chris Obore, the Spokesperson of Parliament, has now confirmed that these controversial sessions will indeed impose an extra financial burden on Ugandan taxpayers. However, Obore stopped short of revealing the exact amount Parliament will spend on these sittings.
In a recent statement, Obore acknowledged that Members of Parliament and selected staff who will be on duty during these regional sittings will be entitled to a rated subsistence allowance, which they will use to cover all their living expenses during the sessions. He emphasized that while costs are inevitable, efforts are being made to ensure the careful use of resources. "It cannot be said that the sittings will not cost money. As already stated, they definitely will, and care is employed to ensure sparing use of resources, with the aim being exhaustively and impactfully addressing challenges facing regions," Obore stated in his letter.

The confirmation of these additional costs has sparked concerns among Ugandan citizens, many of whom are already burdened by high taxes and economic challenges. The lack of transparency regarding the exact figures only adds to the unease surrounding the decision to hold these regional sittings.
As the Parliament prepares for these sessions, the public will be watching closely to see how the funds are allocated and whether the anticipated outcomes justify the expenses incurred.
