Police in Bushenyi District have arrested three individuals in connection with alleged malicious damage to property and assault following a violent clash that erupted on July 11, 2025, in Katimba Village, Rushinya Parish, Kakanju Sub-county.
According to preliminary investigations, the chaos broke out during a campaign rally organized by Mr. Tugume Boniface, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Igara West Constituency. Mr. Tugume’s vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz ML Class with registration number UBQ 415C, was reportedly attacked by individuals believed to be supporters of his rival, Counsel Kyampene Cohen.
Eyewitnesses allege that as Mr. Tugume’s convoy made its way through Katimba Village, it was intercepted by a group of Kyampene’s supporters who began pelting it with stones. The vehicle sustained significant damage, and Mr. Tugume, along with some members of his team, suffered minor injuries during the incident. Kuribatura Kuraisi, a resident of Katimba and eyewitness, said the attack occurred without warning as the convoy arrived at the rally venue.
“We saw a group of youths emerge from the roadside and start throwing stones at the vehicles. People scattered in all directions,” Kuraisi recounted. Police responded promptly, dispersed the violent crowd, and restored order. Three suspects were arrested and remain in custody to assist with ongoing investigations. They have been identified as: Komujuni Loyce, 38, Twinomujuni Mark, 20, Tugume Ezra, 32
