The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has suspended all on-street parking along major sections of Kampala Road and Jinja Road in a bid to ease chronic traffic congestion in the Central Business District.
According to a public notice issued yesterday May 13th, parking has been banned along Kampala Road and Jinja Road from the Entebbe Road junction to the Jinja Road/Yusuf Lule Junction (Kitgum House).
The move, which takes immediate effect, aims to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and create better mobility for all road users in the busy city centre.

Motorists have been advised to use the following alternative parking areas:

  • Station Road
  • Dewinton Road
  • Said Barre Road
  • Nkrumah Road
  • Parking spaces within buildings and private premises
  • Commercial off-street parking at National Theatre, Uganda House, and the Multi-Storey Car Park along Portal Avenue.

KCCA urged all motorists to comply with the new parking regulations and cooperate with traffic enforcement officers.
“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue working towards a safer and more efficient city transport system,” the authority stated.

The suspension comes amid ongoing efforts by KCCA to decongest the city centre, which has long suffered from heavy traffic, illegal parking, and limited road space. Business owners and regular commuters in the affected areas are expected to feel the immediate impact of the changes.

Motorists planning to visit the CBD are advised to plan their journeys early and identify suitable parking before arrival to avoid being towed or fined.
This is the latest in a series of traffic management measures being implemented in Kampala to create a more livable and orderly city.
