Kabale

The Kabale Diocese has announced that the episcopal ordination and installation of Bishop-Elect Msgr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire will take place on October 3, 2026, at Rushoroza Cathedral.
The announcement was made by the Apostolic Administrator of Kabale Diocese, Bishop Callist Rubaramira, in a letter dated July 27, 2026, addressed to all clergy, religious, and the faithful of the diocese.

Bishop Rubaramira said the ordination follows the acceptance of his resignation by Pope Leo XIV, in accordance with Canon Law, and the appointment of Msgr. Gubazire as his successor, which was officially announced on July 15, 2026, by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature to Uganda, Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwonou, at Rushoroza Cathedral.

He noted that he has continued serving as Apostolic Administrator since the announcement and will remain in the role until the ordination and installation of the new bishop.
"I am writing to kindly inform you that our new Bishop will be ordained and installed on October 3, 2026, at Rushoroza Cathedral," Bishop Rubaramira said in the letter.
He called on all Catholics in the diocese to pray for the Bishop-Elect and to actively participate in the preparations and contributions toward the ordination ceremony.
"The Ordination Committee will be communicating more with you," he added.

Who is Bishop-Elect Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire?
Msgr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire was appointed Bishop of Kabale Diocese on July 15, 2026, by Pope Leo XIV, succeeding Bishop Callist Rubaramira, whose resignation was accepted after he reached the canonical retirement age of 75.
Before his appointment, Gubazire served as Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, where he played a key role in pastoral administration and diocesan leadership.
He has also served in various capacities, including parish ministry, seminary formation, and diocesan administration, earning a reputation as an experienced priest and administrator.

His appointment was welcomed by the Catholic faithful in Kabale and the wider Kigezi region, who described it as the beginning of a new chapter for the diocese.
The episcopal ordination on October 3 is expected to attract bishops, priests, religious leaders, government officials, and thousands of Catholic faithful from across Uganda and beyond.
