Bushenyi - Residents of Kyanamira in Rwenjeru Ward, Nyakabirizi Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality are grappling with fears of an impending famine after a heavy downpour yesterday ravaged their crops and gardens. Locals told our reporter that banana plantations, cassava fields, and other food crops were severely damaged by the torrential rains. Many now worry about food shortages and the loss of income.

Leo Muhanguzi, the LC1 chairman, expressed deep concern about the community’s next source of livelihood, noting that some residents had invested Parish Development Model (PDM) funds in their plantations.
“Many people put their hopes in these gardens after investing PDM money. Now everything is gone,” Muhanguzi lamented.

Night Christine, a resident of Kyanamira Village, echoed these fears, saying, “The heavy rains destroyed numerous gardens and plantations. We are worried about a food crisis and how we shall sustain our families.”

Milton Kasubure, the LC4 councillor representing Rwenjeru Ward, appealed to the government to intervene by providing food relief and seedlings to help the affected residents recover.
“We ask the government to support us with food relief and planting materials so that people can restart their farming activities,” he said.
The community now anxiously awaits government intervention to avert a looming crisis.
