The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has arraigned Dr. Ssegujja Hassan, a medical doctor, before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court on charges of forgery and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Dr. Ssegujja, who was arrested earlier this week, was remanded to prison until March 17, 2025, pending further investigations.
Forgery linked to high-profile fraud case
According to prosecution, Dr. Ssegujja is accused of aiding Balondemu David, the Chairperson of the Kampala City Land Board and a lawyer, by fraudulently forging medical documents to support Balondemu’s bail application in an ongoing case. Balondemu is currently facing charges of obtaining over UGX 2.2 billion by false pretenses and conspiracy to defraud an American company, KG Unlimited LLC. The prosecution alleges that the medical documents were fabricated to mislead the court into granting Balondemu bail under false pretenses.
Court remands accused, pending further hearing
During the court session, the prosecution opposed Dr. Ssegujja's release on bail, citing the gravity of the offenses and the need to prevent interference with investigations. The court agreed, ordering his remand until March 17, 2025.
This development is part of the government’s intensified crackdown on fraud and corruption, particularly cases involving high-profile individuals accused of financial crimes.
Authorities have warned that those involved in forgery and fraud schemes will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. More updates to follow,
