The Mbarara City kid athletes that represented at this years' edition of the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) ball games in Yumbe, were given a heroes' welcome on return from the games.
The 47 athletes and officials were specially received by Mbarara City education officer Ezra Atuhairwe, who represented the City Mayor Robert Kakyebezi at the City grounds here in Mbarara.
Atuhairwe hailed their performance at the games and urged them to keep focused on both academics and studies.
"We had a challenge of some parents who refused their children from going for sports but they had a misconception of poor feeding while at the games and diverted concentration on studies. But i want to assure you that pupils who take part in sports still do well in academics as the past PLE results show. So i want to thank those parents that allowed their kids out and you specifically for representing Mbarara City very well," Atuhairwe said.
Mbarara City was represented by four teams ie boys and girls volleyball U14, girls netball U14 and boys football U14 at the games that ended on Tuesday in Yumbe.
The boys' volleyball team won silver medal after losing 3-2 to Kumi Local Government in the finals, and the netball and football teams reached the round of 16 but the girls volleyball did not go past the group stages.
