Gaza’s Health Ministry has reported 10 new deaths from famine and malnutrition in the past 24 hours, including two children, bringing the total number of hunger-related deaths to 313. Of these, 119 were children.
The latest figures come as Israeli forces intensified their offensive on Gaza City, where tanks and warplanes flattened entire neighborhoods, according to Al Jazeera correspondents on the ground. Since Wednesday morning, at least 37 Palestinians have been killed, among them eight people who were waiting for humanitarian aid.
Overall, Israel’s military campaign has killed at least 62,895 people and wounded 158,927 since October 2023. The war erupted after Hamas-led attacks inside Israel left 1,139 people dead and more than 200 others taken captive.
EU Calls for Stronger Response
Meanwhile, the European Union’s humanitarian chief, Hadja Lahbib, has called on the bloc to take decisive action over the crisis in Gaza. She warned that divisions among EU member states risk paralyzing efforts to hold Israel accountable.
“We are at a turning point and now it’s time for the EU to act in a way that matches its international stature,” Lahbib, the European commissioner for humanitarian aid and crisis management, told reporters. “We cannot stand by and simply watch innocent civilians, aid workers, journalists being killed and starving to death.”
The 27-member bloc has remained split, with some governments firmly backing Israel while others push for stronger support for Palestinians. Lahbib urged EU leaders to show political courage and adopt a collective voice on Gaza that reflects “our values and principles.”
