Bushenyi
At least 56 out of 75 aspiring candidates who expressed interest in contesting for district councillor positions in Bushenyi District have so far turned up for nominations, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has confirmed. The nominations are taking place at the NRM district offices in Bushenyi Town and are expected to conclude within a week.
Kenan Muhangi, the Assistant NRM Registrar for Bushenyi District, said the nomination exercise is progressing steadily, with an average of four to five candidates appearing daily. He encouraged the remaining aspirants to turn up before the deadline.
“We commend the enthusiasm of the candidates, but we urge those who haven’t yet been nominated to act swiftly. The nomination exercise will officially close on June 30, and there will be no extensions,” Muhangi said.
Among those already nominated is Katra Tushemirirwe, who was nominated on the NRM ticket as the lady councillor representing persons with disabilities (PWDs). She pledged to mobilize and empower people with disabilities to form organized groups to benefit from government programs.
“The NRM manifesto has many opportunities, but unless our people are organized, they will continue to miss out. My goal is to ensure that no person with a disability is left behind,” Tushemirirwe vowed.
Naijuka Jennefer
Jennifer Naijuka, who is seeking to retain her seat as the LCV lady councillor representing Central Division, urged residents to renew their trust in her leadership.
“I have already lobbied for key projects like roads, schools, and clean water, but there’s still unfinished business. I am asking for your trust once more so I can complete what we started and push for even greater development under the NRM government,” Naijuka stated.
Other candidates nominated on Thursday include Sarah Kagaba (Nyakabirizi Division), John Bomukama (Bitooma Town Council), and Neema Kamugisha (Ibaare and Bumbaire sub-counties).
According to the NRM electoral roadmap, the party primaries for LCV and Municipal LCIV councillor positions will be held on August 12, 2025.
Muhangi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparency and called on all aspirants and their supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns and respect party regulations.
“This is an internal party process. Let’s maintain discipline, fairness, and unity as we choose the right leaders to carry the NRM flag into the 2026 general elections,” he emphasized.
