Buhweju – Police in Buhweju District have arrested a 42-year-old woman, Nshemerirwe Shallon, in connection with the alleged murder of her husband, Beinomugisha Patrick. According to Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson SSP Martial Tumusiime, Shallon, a resident of Kaniga I Village, Kyeyare Parish, Rwengwe Sub-county, confessed to killing her husband during a domestic dispute on the night of April 13, 2025.
Tumusiime said the couple engaged in a fight at around 9:00 p.m., during which Shallon allegedly struck her husband on the head with a shovel, leading to his death. "The cause of the murder was domestic violence. The suspect accused the deceased of failing to provide for the children, including not paying school fees," Tumusiime said.
Police allege that Shallon subsequently dug a pit inside their bedroom, wrapped her husband’s body in bedsheets, and buried him. "After committing the act, she reportedly buried the deceased inside their bedroom. We arrested her on April 14, 2025, in Mbarara City while she was trying to flee. She is currently in custody at Buhweju Central Police Station," Tumusiime added. He also stated that police are awaiting a court order to exhume the body from the home. "We are currently awaiting a court order to allow us to exhume the body of the deceased from the house," SSP Tumusiime confirmed.
