Bushenyi
Several candidates were today nominated to contest as district councillors for their respective sub-counties in Sheema and Bushenyi districts. The nomination exercise, which will run for three days across the country, kicked off today in line with the general elections roadmap released by the Electoral Commission of Uganda. The process for LC5 chairpersons and councillors started on September 3, 2025, and will end on September 5, 2025. Candidates aspiring for the position of district chairperson are required to collect signatures from at least two-thirds of the sub-counties in their respective districts.
Some of the candidates who spoke to our reporter outlined key areas they intend to prioritize if elected, including education, health, economic empowerment, community welfare, skilling, and sensitization.
Nelson Karuhanga has been nominated as the councillor representing workers in the district council
Bushenyi District Returning Officer, Joseph Tumwijukye, said the exercise began smoothly, with most candidates coming from the ruling NRM party and independents. He added that the number of aspirants is expected to increase before the deadline on Friday.
Tumwijukye further noted that the Electoral Commission is working closely with security agencies to ensure a peaceful process, warning that anyone attempting to disrupt the exercise would face the law.
