The former Kitara FC striker, now plying his trade in Rwanda’s top flight with giants APR FC, missed some of the earlier Group G fixtures due to suspension. Despite his absence, Uganda secured back-to-back victories against Mozambique and Somalia.
Both upcoming fixtures are away from home. The Cranes will first face Botswana on Thursday, October 9, in Francistown, before traveling to Algiers to take on table leaders Algeria on Tuesday, October 14, at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium.
With FIFA’s new extended World Cup qualification format, Uganda still has a chance to progress if they secure maximum points from these final two matches.
Algeria, who lead Group G with 19 points—four ahead of Uganda—need just one win against Somalia to confirm automatic qualification. Uganda, in second place with 15 points, will aim to finish as one of the best four second-placed teams, which would earn them a spot in the continental playoff round. From there, the winner will represent Africa in the intercontinental playoff for the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
