A senior health official has been charged in court over allegations of soliciting money from a job applicant in exchange for securing him a government position. Dr. Wataba Saadi, the Municipal Medical Officer of Lugazi Municipality, was on Thursday arraigned before the Mukono Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretence and conspiracy to defraud. His arraignment followed a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Prosecution alleges that between January and June 2025, in Mukono Town, Dr. Wataba conspired with Sekikubo Mubarak, the LC III Chairperson of Nakisunga Sub-County, and Mugerwa Ronald Saaku, the Probation and Welfare Officer of Lugazi Municipality, to defraud Dr. Mukisa George William of UGX 38 million.
The trio is accused of falsely claiming that the money would facilitate members of the Mukono District Service Commission to secure Dr. Mukisa a job as a Medical Officer in Mukono District.

According to the prosecution, the victim had applied for the position and was misled into believing that payment was required to influence the recruitment process, which was not the case.

The accused appeared in court as investigations continue into what authorities believe may be part of a wider scheme involving the alleged sale of government jobs within the health sector.
Court has remanded the suspects pending further proceedings.
