As NRM local council flag bearers and village party structures mobilize across all 72,000 villages in the country, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who also serves as the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has called on all party members to actively participate in the crucial verification exercise scheduled for Tuesday, 6th May 2025.
President Museveni urged NRM village members to attend the baraza meetings, noting that these gatherings will facilitate the verification of NRM members listed in the yellow books—the party’s official register.
"I call upon all NRM members to come out and participate in this exercise. It is important that we verify who is truly a member of our party. The yellow books must reflect accurate and up-to-date information," Museveni said.
He made these remarks today during a national address and the official launch of the NRM party structures, the presentation of local council flag bearers, and the issuance of guidelines aimed at ensuring smooth and peaceful elections. The event was held at State House, Nakasero.
The President emphasized that the newly issued guidelines are intended to safeguard the integrity of the NRM membership list, underscoring that the verification process is essential for strengthening the party's internal democracy.
"This exercise will strengthen the internal democracy of the NRM. If our register is clean and credible, our elections will be transparent and reflective of the true will of our members," he stressed.
He further clarified that the elections will be conducted through the method of lining up behind one’s preferred candidate, and that no proxy voting will be allowed.
"We shall vote by lining up behind our chosen candidate. There will be no proxy voting. Each member must physically be present to cast their vote," Museveni reiterated.
In addition, President Museveni urged village NRM election committees to thoroughly audit the registers by reading aloud the names of members who have either passed away or relocated to other areas, to ensure an accurate and credible voter register ahead of the elections.
"I also direct that the registers be carefully audited. Read out the names and confirm whether the individuals are still alive. Those who have died or moved away must be removed from the lists so that we have a credible register," he said.
