The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women's League Chairperson, Ms Adrine Kobusingye, has launched a grassroots mobilisation campaign in Bushenyi District ahead of the upcoming Local Council (LC) elections.

Kobusingye said she has so far visited about 20 villages through community barazas (public forums) to assess residents' preparedness, mobilise support for NRM flag bearers, and sensitise households on poverty eradication.

She said that although some residents were initially unaware of the newly introduced nationwide barazas, the response has been encouraging, with many communities embracing the initiative.

Kobusingye noted that several NRM candidates are running unopposed, describing this as a sign of strong grassroots support for the party. She added that the barazas have also helped persuade some NRM-leaning independent candidates to rejoin the party and support the official NRM flag bearers.

She said Local Council I (LC I) leaders have a key role to play in the government's efforts to fight corruption and eradicate poverty at the community level.

"The government's goal is to move the remaining 38 percent of Ugandans who are still engaged in subsistence farming into the money economy," Kobusingye said.

She urged residents to take advantage of government programmes and infrastructure such as electricity, clean water, and improved roads to create wealth.

"Electricity, clean water, and improved road networks have been provided in communities to facilitate trade because money will not simply fall into your hands. People must use these opportunities to create wealth," she said.

Kobusingye also challenged local leaders to strengthen sensitisation on government wealth-creation programmes, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), to ensure beneficiaries use the funds effectively.

She urged leaders to monitor the utilisation and recovery of PDM funds so that more households can benefit from the revolving programme.

The NRM Women's League chairperson also called on citizens to demand accountability from government officials and elect leaders who can effectively serve their communities.
