Buhweju - Police in Buhweju District have arrested a 26-year-old man on allegations of killing his wife.
Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Tayebwa Richard, alias Kyoojo, 26, a resident of Kitega I Village, Kitega Parish, Bitsya Sub-County in Buhweju District. The deceased was identified as Evas Ankunda, 27, a resident of Nyakishenyi Village, Rukiri Parish, Bihanga Sub-County in the same district.
It is alleged that the suspect fell in love with the deceased, who worked at a bar in Bitsya Trading Centre. However, on April 4, 2025, the suspect discovered that his partner was allegedly cheating on him with another man in the trading centre. According to Tumusiime, the suspect grabbed the victim from the bar and beat her until locals intervened, rescuing her and calling her father, who subsequently had the suspect arrested.
Disan Musinguzi, 59, who reported the incident to police, stated that the deceased was first taken to Nsiika Health Centre IV and later referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where she sadly passed away.
