St Elizabeth Girls’ Volleyball team has embarked on early preparations ahead of the new 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) competitions. The Mbarara City–based side has entered residential training at their school premises in Kakiika, with the USSSA Elite Games among the immediate competitions on their calendar.

The Elite Games are secondary school competitions that feature the top eight school teams from the previous year’s national games in selected disciplines, including netball, volleyball, football, basketball, and handball. The tournament is organised to curtain-raise the new season’s competitions.

After USSSA announced the games schedule, St Elizabeth began preparations not only for the new season but also to enable them to retain the girls’ volleyball title they won last year at the games hosted at St Joseph of Nazareth in Mpigi.
“It has always been our norm to start early preparations ahead of the school sports calendar, but this has come earlier because we want to be ready, starting with the Elite Games, of which we are the defending champions and we want to retain the title,” team manager William Rwamihambo said.

St Elizabeth failed to retain the title last year

St Elizabeth has proved to be a national schools volleyball powerhouse, having won back-to-back national girls’ category titles in 2022 and 2023 and reaching the final in 2024 and last year, where they both lost to Bukedea Comprehensive.

It is the same Bukedea Comprehensive team that they beat 3–1 in the Elite Games final to clinch last year’s title, which they will head to Luwero to defend.
